Driver Rehabilitation

Coastal Occupational Therapy’s DriveAbility program is designed to help individuals with physical, cognitive, or visual impairments regain their skills and confidence behind the wheel. Our Driving Rehab Specialist (DRS) plays a vital role in this program by conducting a thorough evaluation of your driving ability, recommending adaptive equipment, providing training and rehabilitation services, and working with you and your family to develop a plan for safe and independent driving.

Our goal is to help you regain your independence and improve your quality of life. With the support and guidance of our DRS, you can get back on the road and operate a vehicle safely and confidently.

How Our Program Works

*You’ll need a physician’s referral and a valid driver’s license to get started.

1. Call 321-361-8040 to schedule your assessment with our dedicated Driving Rehab Specialist at Coastal Occupational Therapy.

2. You will review your medical and driving history with the Driving Rehab Specialist during a follow-up call.

3. Complete the clinical assessment.

4. If recommended, you will take a behind-the-wheel assessment in our company car which is specially equipped for your safety.

What To Expect After The Assessment

Based on evidence and clinical judgement, your driving risk will be determined using Red, Yellow, Green indicators.

Red

Red = Unsafe to drive. We will provide you with recommendations for community resources, including public transportation or other services.

Yellow

Yellow = Impairments affect fitness to drive and must be addressed. We will also recommendations for vehicle adaptions and training on how to use them.

Green

Green = Safe to drive.
